At dawn ran out
a dog in swallow-tails, a cat in a beret,
argued themselves hoarse:
what should cats wear,
how should a dog behave itself
once it has put on swallow-tails.

At the first glimmer of
light
the doves flew over
to sing serenades
how glad they are of their darlings,
and brought the news
that it is warmer together.
